Seafarer got his salary thanks to the SUR assistance
A call was received on the hotline of the Seafarers' Union of Russia from a ship engineer who was not paid his salary after signing off from a vessel. The seafarer worked under a contract on board the dry cargo ship "Omskiy-138".
In early March, he signed off from the vessel and was supposed to receive $1,700. However, the money never arrived in his account. Then he turned to the SUR Azov Sea and River Don Territorial Organization for assistance. The Union promptly contacted the shipowner, a Rostov-on-Don-based company Damar Shipping.
"I got in touch with the company's management, visited their office, and the shipowner promised to pay off the debt in the nearest time. The employer kept his word," Leonid Glushak, Chairman of the SUR ADTO said.
Today the seafarer confirmed that he has received his money and thanked the Union for its assistance.
The SUR notes that such cases are not uncommon: the number of calls to the union's hotline continues to grow. Specialists consult seafarers daily on a variety of issues, from wage arrears claims to adjusting of "Northern" retirement pays and joining the union.
