ADTO SUR assisted the seafarers who declared a protest

Thanks to the efforts of the Chairman of the Azov-Don Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia Leonid Glushak, the seafarers began to receive wages.

On March 17 at 18:30 the crew of a vessel, stayed at the port of Rostov-on-Don, declared a protest for the January and February back pay. The ship's crew suspended cargo-handling operations and stated that they would not leave the vessel until the shipowner made the payment.

The Azov-Don Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia promptly intervened in the situation. In particular, the ADTO SUR Chairman Glushak participated in the negotiations between the seafarers and the shipowner.

Due to the efforts of the Union, a compromise was reached: part of the debt was paid immediately, and the remaining debt was stated in the shipowner's letter of guarantee. The seafarers are expected to receive their salaries in full this week.

According to Leonid Glushak, the company, in general, fulfills its obligations in spite of challenges faced. He noted that in early March, six crew members from the same vessel were signed off from the vessel with their salaries paid in full.

- We always stand for seafarers and make every effort to ensure that employers respect their rights. In this particular case, we succeeded in obtaining payments and managed to avoid a long downtime of the vessel, which was important for the company and the crew, - the ADTO SUR Chairman emphasized.
