Seafarers from MV Sagar Violet thanked Seafarers' Union of Russia for facilitating wage payment

The tanker Sagar Violet, which was detained at the port of Nakhodka several days ago due to months-long delay in wage payment to the crew, has been cleared. Cash has been delivered on board the vessel to pay off the three-month wage arrears, as well as the necessary supply of fresh food.

The crew expressed gratitude to the Far Eastern Regional Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia for prompt addressing of their issue. "Please accept sincere gratitude from the crew of the tanker Sagar Violet for your efforts to restore justice in our case. We ask you to recognize the contribution of the trade union organization's employee Vitaly Miroshnichenko, who maintained daily contact with us and coordinated interaction with the authorities. Thanks to such care, we felt protected and confident in a favourable outcome of the current situation", - the seafarers wrote in their letter.

Chairman of the Far Eastern Regional Organization of Seafarers' Union of Russia Nikolay Sukhanov emphasized that the total amount of debt to the crew was $200,000.

“Wages for three months have been paid in full,” Nikolay Sukhanov noted. He added that the situation with MV Sagar Violet was another example of the union’s fight for the rights of seafarers, who often face violations of employment agreements.

Recall that the Palau-flagged vessel was detained following the inspection confirmed the crew’s complaints about non-payment of wages. Moreover, inspectors found that the seafarers were not provided with enough food. The issue has been addressed owing to the intervention of Seafarers’ Union of Russia, Nakhodka Transport Prosecutor’s Office and Nakhodka Port Authorities.
