The Seafarers' Union of Russia received gratitude from a former crew member of the m/v Tagor for the assistance in signing off from the vessel.
He reached out to the SUR in November and told he was close to completing his second employment contract on the vessel and wanted to return home a bit earlier. However, the company did not confirm the replacement. Despite the fact that the vessel is not covered by any collective agreement, the union managed to talk to the management and get an explanation of the situation. It turned out that at the time when the seafarer requested repatriation, it was not possible to arrange it: the vessel did not cross the Russian border and was staying at anchorage.
The parties agreed that as soon as the border service arranged all documents regarding the arrival of m/v Tagor in Russia, the seafarer would be repatriated immediately. Indeed, as soon as the vessel was under loading in Ust-Luga, the crew member was sent home.
He reported it in his letter to SUR and thanked for the support: «Thank you for your assistance in addressing my issue, especially I would like to note your professional work approach».
