Today, the Seafarers' Union of Russia celebrates its 33rd anniversary!
SUR Chairman Yury Sukhorukov congratulated SUR members and colleagues on this glorious holiday:
"Dear friends, I would like to express my sincere congratulations on the birthday of the Seafarers' Union of Russia. Today we are turning 33 years old. We started out in tough times, but the support of Russian seafarers, our faith in success, and the assurance that the truth was on our side helped us overcome all the challenges along the way.
Thanks to all the trials and tribulations that we had to go through, we became more confident, more experienced and stronger: without all those difficulties, the union would not have formed into an effective, powerful organization that boldly faces new challenges.
No matter how SUR has evolved over the years, one thing has consistently remained constant - our unwavering determination to provide assistance to maritime workers. We have made significant progress owing to the course that we once chose. The SUR has helped and keeps to help thousands of Russian seafarers to fight for better working conditions and to advocate the social guarantees. Over the years of efforts, we made sure that together we are an effective force capable of conquering any height.
Thanks to everyone who joined our ranks, believed in us and trusted us to protect their rights. The fact that the number of our members is growing every year is the best indicator that SUR was not established in vain and that our efforts are not wasted. Let every maritime fleet worker know that they can always rely on us.
On the birthday of the trade union, I wish everyone happiness and well-being, good luck and success, joyful days and bright moments! Fair winds and following seas!"
