The Azov-Don Territorial Organization of the Seafarers Union of Russia assisted five crew members in signing off from the vessel.
Russian seafarers applied to ADTO SUR seeking assistance in their repatriation. According to ADTO SUR Chairman Leonid Glushak, at the time of contacting the Union, the seafarers' contracts were still valid, but they decided to sign off because the vessel was idle in the danger zone - beyond the 12-mile zone in the Black Sea - awaiting repairs. The company did not respond to the resignation notices submitted by the seafarers.
Only following negotiations between ADTO SUR and the shipowner, the repatriation was agreed. The five crew members of MV Volga River were replaced a week and a half after the appeal to the Union.
The crew change took place at sea, when a vessel arrived and brought the seafarers to shore.
The Azov-Don Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia received gratitude for the prompt addressing the issue.
