Sergey Nasonov, a first-year
cadet of the Belomorsk-Onega branch of the Admiral Makarov State University of
Maritime and Inland Shipping, joined the Republic of Karelia team to take part
in the XXXIII Children International Gelendzhik Sailing Regatta.
The regatta was held from
October 27 to November 4 in Gelendzhik. This largest sports event on the Black
Sea coast of Krasnodar Region brought together children's teams from five
friendly foreign countries and 35 regions of Russia. Young yachtsmen aged 9 to
23 took part in the racing.
It has been held for over 30
years and is the largest and the most prestigious youth sailing competition in
Russia. Since 2022, the XXXIII Children's International Gelendzhik Sailing
Regatta has been held under the auspices of the Russian Olympic Committee in
international status. In 2024, the "Gelendzhik Regatta" was included
in the List of important international physical culture events held on the
territory of the Russian Federation by the Order of the Ministry of Sports of
the Russian Federation.
Participants of 14 classes,
including 3 Olympic ones, had to master the skill of sailing and hone their
craft in intense rivalry. The most representative classes were
"Optimist", "Laser 4.7", "Sailboard Techno" and
"Cadet".
The water competition lasted
six days and took place in the picturesque Gelendzhik Bay. A total of 45 sets
of awards were played out during the competition.
It is noteworthy that the
cadets of the Belomorsk-Onega branch of the Admiral Makarov State University of
Maritime and Inland Shipping consistently participate in sporting events, many
of which are organized with the assistance of the Karelian Territorial
Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia.
