SUR received the thanks

The family of the motorman of the m/v Polar Night (flag of Sierra Leone) expressed gratitude to the Seafarers' Union of Russia for their assistance in arranging  emergency medical aid during the vessels’s stay in a Chinese port, as well as in receiving delayed wages for March and April 2024.

Following ship repair work in the port of Zhou Shan, MV Polar Nigh was taken out into the roadstead, and the Chinese authorities detained the vessel. According to the information the crew had, the reason was the unpaid bill for repairs. In addition, the crew did not receive wages for two months.

In particular, the motorman's employment contract expired, but nobody even talk about his signing off. Besides, there was another problem concerning his health which needed addressing: he had a severe toothache. A doctor's examination and prescribed medications did not help - it only got worse: it got to the point that the seafarer had difficulty breathing, he could not eat or drink water, all this due to severe swelling.

Having received an appeal for emergency medical assistance, SUR sent a complaint to the Primorsk Transport Prosecutor's Office. Only then the things moved forward.

According to Nikolay Sukhanov, Chairman of the  Far Eastern Territorial Organization of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia, the motorist was provided with medical assistance, and the company almost immediately settled the issue of paying his wage debt.
