SUR Collective Agreement provides additional protection
The rules and regulations of the Maritime Labor Convention 2006, as amended, are aimed, among other things, at providing seafarers with a fair employment contract. Such a document is legally binding. It is appropriate to note that a seafarer’s employment contract also involves the inclusion of the provisions of the current collective agreement, which is an additional guarantee of compliance with rights in terms of wages, employment, working and rest hours, welfare and other issues.
The reefer fleet of the OWH Shipmanagement GmbH operates in accordance with a collective agreement concluded between the Baltic Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia and the company. Crews for the shipowner are recruited by the crewing company Afalina Shipping Management Company (St. Petersburg).
As evidenced in practice, a collective agreement between the trade union and the employer makes working conditions on board attractive for specialists in various fields. Suffice it to say that the salary of an able seaman (AB) is more than $2000. Based on materials from BTO SUR; in the photo: m/v "Crown Ruby" is part of the OWH's reefer fleet.
