Working conditions in the maritime fleet become better and safer

The Technical Labor Inspection of the Southern Territorial Organization of  Seafarers’ Union of Russia summed up the results of its work over the past year. In 2023, the Inspector of STO SUR continued to visit vessels calling at Novorossiysk in  and to check the working conditions of Russian seafarers – the SUR members. The SUR representative inspected 24 vessels and noted that working conditions on board vessels become better, and the most crew members strictly comply with all safety requirements.

-Safety rules cannot be treated formally, - Igor Kholyavka, a STO SUR Technical Labor Inspector, emphasized.  – It is very important to comply with all requirements, because at some point it may save your life . We observe that more and more seafarers understand this and become responsible.

The Inspector did not record any tragic incidents in 2023 in the fleet of shipowners – the SUR social partners. He took part in a special assessment of jobs on board vessel “Fedor” of the ANSHIP company and gave his positive conclusion. “Our union has been cooperating with the shipping company ANSHIP for many years, and the acquisition of another vessel means additional jobs with decent working conditions for Russian seafarers,” -  Igor Kholyavka added.

Let us recall that the Technical Labor Inspection of Seafarers’ Union of Russia completed its setup in 1992. It included representatives from all regions where SUR operates. All these years, Inspectors regularly visit vessels which crews include the SUR members, and also participate in the work of commissions and in accident investigations.
