Representatives of the Seafarers' Union of Russia keep a watchful eye for all figures. And a recent situation on board the m/v B.S. has confirmed that. A crew member of this vessel contacted SUR and said that his contract was expiring, and, in his opinion, the company was underpaying him the overtime.
The SUR Technical Labor Inspectorate audited the documents, consulted with colleagues from the Italian Seafarers' Union - a signatory to the collective agreement for the m/v B.S., and the underpayment had been confirmed.
A letter was sent to the shipowner requiring to pay the debt to the Russian seafarer. Later he reported to SUR that the company paid him $400 for overtime and thanked the union for assistance. Upon termination of the contract, the crew member of the m/v B.S. returned home safely.
