Insurance for seafarers

According to Kaliningrad Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia (KTO SUR), seafarers — SUR members, recruited  through the crewing agency "RusAm", are again insured, from the 1st of this May, against accidents for the period between voyages. This year the maximum amount of insurance payments has been increased to RUB1,250,000.

“Our seafarers  have been using such agreement for many years now,” - Lyudmila Izmalkova, KTO SUR Chair said . “Of course, we want everyone to be safe, healthy, not get sick and not suffer any harm, but it is impossible to protect yourself totally from all hazards. What quite possible is to be insured. And to date this insurance covers more than 290 seafarers".

Each seafarer can check if he is on the list of insured persons by calling the trade union phone numbers: 656-840; 686-475; 8-911-471-61-04, as well as the RusAm agency phone numbers (916-808; 916-769; 916-864).

It should be noted that seafarers — SUR members (SUR Kaliningrad Primary Organization “Zashchita”), recruited to work for Norwegian shipowners through crewing agencies Bulk Ship Management, HAV Ship Management and Green Management, also can be insured against accidents for the period between voyages. There are many other benefits of the trade union membership. Thus, any seafarer who is a SUR member (KTO SUR Zashchita) can get consultations, financial aid, assistance in resolving  labor conflicts,  journals and T-shirts, as well as New Year gifts for children under 14 years old.
