The International Transport Workers' Federation in Russia helped a Syrian seafarer to sign off from the vessel in the port of Ust-Luga under the conditions acceptable to him.
On Sunday, a crew member of the m/v Tarsus M contacted the ITF. He said that the company intended to terminate his contract prematurely, but he could not really explain the reason. The situation became clear the next day already. Following the negotiations the Inspectorate and the shipowner agreed that the Syrian seafarer would be repatriated from Ust-Luga ahead of schedule, as the company planned, but om condition of payment seafarer a bonus - a monthly salary.
Just yesterday the seafarer contacted the ITF from Istanbul Airport to thank for their assistance. He heartily thanked the Russian Inspectorate, adding that everything was fine with him and he was heading home.
