The crew of m/v Atlantic Ray thanked SUR for assistance
The SUR Primary Organization of Vladivostok has secured a payment of crew salary for July 2022 in the amount of $21,750. The SUR Far Eastern Territorial Organization also provided assistance to the crew in this matter.
This August the crew of the m/v Atlantic Ray (IMO 8900983, flag of the Dominican Republic) contacted the office of the SUR FETO and informed that the employer was delaying salaries, and repeated calls to the company did not give any results.
“At that moment the vessel was in the Vladivostok port roadstead waiting for loading, so we proposed the crew to prepare an appeal to the trade union and contacted our colleagues in Vladivostok, - Nikolay Sukhanov, the head of the SUR FETO explained.
According to the Chairman of the SUR Primary Organization of Vladivostok, ITF Inspector Petr Osichansky, the problem was addressed in the shortest possible time: after negotiations with the shipowner the crew received their wages.
The captain of m/v Atlantic Ray immediately called the Union to confirm that the company had transferred all back wages. The captain, on behalf of himself and his crew, thanked the SUR for the assistance.
It is worth to add that the former name of the m/v Atlantic Ray is ST Wind (Russian flag), the owner is Vip-Stroy Holding LLC.
- We have repeatedly warned seafarers from dealing with this dishonest shipowner, - Sukhanov noted. - The fact is that the m/v ST Wind was under arrested for more than six months because of non payment of wages to the crew. After that the company changed the flag from Russian to Dominican, changed the name of the vessel to Atlantic Ray and began to operate again. A rather similar story happened to another vessel owned by the Vip-Stroy Holding LLC: the m/v Port May became known as Pacific Ray and changed the flag from Russian to Dominican.
In this regard the SUR FETO once again recommends seafarers to avoid employment on both ships as time shows the shipowner continues to violate the rights of seafarers by using the flag of convenience.
