A pre-trip gathering of the crewmembers of the m/v Marshal Vasilevsky was held in the St. Petersburg office of Sovcomflot. According to tradition, representatives of the Seafarers Union of Russia and a shipping company took part in this meeting. It should be noted that this is a standard practice that has always been applied to seafarers working in the SCF.
During such events, the crewmembers are instructed on labor protection, navigation safety, and technical support. They are introduced to the latest changes in the legislation regulating the work of the crew, the terms of the contract and the collective agreement. According to Vyacheslav Rozov, deputy chairman of the SUR primary trade union organization of seafarers of St. Petersburg, the meeting was attended by seafarers who will partially replace their colleagues on board the Marshal Vasilevsky, so they will leave for Barcelona, where the ship is located. The contracts of 9crewmembers are signed for 4 months.
He added that all the seafarers had been quarantined for 14 days before the meeting at the office and had received negative tests for Covid-19. We should add that the Marshal Vasilevsky works under the Russian flag and is covered by the SUR collective agreement, which is a guarantee of decent working conditions on board.
