Permission to visit JSC Astafiev Terminal

The Nakhodka Transport Prosecutor's Office confirmed the right of the Far Eastern territorial organization of the Seafarers Union of Russia to meet with the members of the SUR on the ships that call the JSC Astafiev Terminal of the port of Nakhodka. Nikolay Sukhanov, Chairman of the Far Eastern territorial organization, noted that this is a fundamental victory for the trade union. Recall that in February, the organization received a refusal to get passes to the Astafiev Terminal for 2021. Then the management referred to the unfavorable sanitary and epidemiological situation in the Primorsky Territory and measures to contain coronavirus infection. The trade union noted that this is a violation of the Federal Law on Trade Unions, their Rights and Guarantees of Activity. In particular, it states that representatives of the trade union have the right to visit the workplaces of their members. That is why the FETO SUR appealed to the Nakhodka Transport Prosecutor's Office with a request to check the legality of the refusal to issue passes. Following the trial procedures, the department noted that if there are members of the trade union on board the ship that came to the berth of the terminal, the trade union representatives have a right to meet with them. «Now, as soon as we find out that a vessel with members of the SUR on board is heading to the terminal, we will submit applications for arranging the passes in advance», noted N. Sukhanov. He also added that the port of Nakhodka is very large, and the trade union’s representatives do not often visit JSC Terminal Astafiev. «However, it was a matter of principle for us to confirm the right of access to the workplaces of seafarers who are members of the trade union,»- the leader of the FETO added
