M/V "Sea Alexa" was detained in the port of Nakhodka due to back wages
The M/V "Sea Alexa" (flag of Togo, IMO 8421585) was detained in the port of Nakhodka. The reason for that was complaints made by three crew members stating the non-payment of wages: the Vladivostok-based company “Morconservis Co. Ltd" owed the seafarers more than $15 000.
The Seafarers' Union of Russia's Far Eastern Territorial Organization (SUR FETO) received the first claim on April 7, 2017, it was submitted by Dmitry Vikulov, the 3d Engineer of the "Sea Alexa". Íå argued that he had not received wages since December 2016. With the assistance of Vasily Saveliev, a lawyer of the SUR FETO , the 3d Engineer made an appeal to the Transport Prosecutor's Office and the Nakhodka Port Authorities. Later, the Chief Engineer and the Electrician joined the claim.
Having received the claim, the Harbour Master sent the Inspector of Port State Control (PSC) to visit the vessel. The inspection confirmed the fact of the outstanding wages, and the PSC officials decided to detain the vessel till the full payment of the back wages to the seafarers.
“At present, the M/V "Sea Alexa" is docked at Nakhodka Shipyard, she is going to depart the port at the end of this week. But this will happen only after the fulfillment of all the PSC requirements by the company. SUR, together with the Transport Prosecutor's Office and the Port Authorities keep the situation under check", - says Nikolay Sukhanov, the Chairman of the SUR FETO.
