Three Best Cadets of the Nevelskoy Moscow State University Became SUR Scholarship Holders

The three best cadets of the Nevelskoy Moscow State University became scholarship holders of the Seafarers' Union of Russia (SUR) for the first half of 2017. At the solemn meeting on 3 March 2017 dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of higher maritime education in the Russian Far East, the diplomas of the SUR scholarship were presented by the Chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization (SUR PPO of the Nevelskoy Moscow State University) Gennady Chuev. The scholarship holders are: Ilya Zimovets, Navigation Department, 3rd term, Alexander Frolkin, Ship Engineering Department, 3rd term, Alexander Zhitnikov, Electric Engineering Department, 2nd term.

- Personal SUR scholarships are introduced in the University since January 1, 2016, we give them to the most talented  cadets, - says Gennady Chuev. "There are many worthy students here, so every time we need to determine the best, we face a very difficult choice. The students have already heard about the scholarships, and very many would like to get it.

As the Chairman of SUR Pacific Territorial Organization Nikoliy Zadoyanov recalls, when they introduced the SUR scholarship, the cadets came to the trade union committee for Gennady Ivanovich Chuev and asked - why not me, why they did not choose me for the scholarship.

- It really was a difficult choice: the Ship Engineering Department alone then had 40 excellent students, - Zadoyanov said. - But it's not easier now either. So we say to guys: go for it, everything is in your hands. Indeed, the cadets of the Nevelskoy Moscow State University have something to fight for: who does not need an additional scholarship of 5000 rubles during the whole school year? At the same time, the cadets are now well acquainted with what is SUR, the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and what they do for seamen around the world.

- Our primary trade union organization undertakes persistent work with cadets, - says Gennady Chuev. - We tell them what the trade union is, how important it is to be a member of a trade union, and how important it is to be able to protect and advocate for one's rights. For the past two years, according to the decision of our PPO, the three best cadets receive the SUR scholarship. They are the best not only in studies, they do their best in everything, including public life and sports.

By the way, the SUR scholarship is three times higher than the state scholarship and no less than the governor's scholarship.

Reference: currently, the SUR PPO of the Nevelskoy Moscow State University are 150 members strong. It is one of the four primary trade union organizations of the SUR Pacific Territorial Organization. In addition to it, the SUR Pacific Territorial Organization Includes SUR PPO “Pacific Trade Union Organization”, Vladivostok PPOM and SUR Local Trade Union Organization of FESCO. In total, 4461 seafarers of the Pacific Region are members of SUR.
