M/v “Professor Katsman” (flag of Russia), managed by JSC “North-Western Shipping”, soon may be boycotted by the Finnish Seamen’s Union (FSU). After the vessel has been inspected in the port of Kotka on March 29, the ITF Inspector Kenneth Bengts and the ITF assistant co-ordinator Jan Örn sent a notice to the directorate of the “North-Western Shipping”.
The notice says that protest actions can be taken by the local maritime unions against any vessel owned by the “North-Western Shipping” despite its flag, should the vessel call at the Finnish port. Actions can take place without any further warnings, and such actions of FSU officials are aimed at the fight with social dumping.
As “Professor Katsman” is engaged in the international transportation at the Baltic region where social dumping is known to be fought with, the FSU wants the North-Western Shipping to sign an ITF Standard Agreement.
P.S. While writing the article we got to know that in the port of Haifa, Israel, m/v “Neva Leader-5” has been inspected. And once again the “North-Western Shipping” has been reminded of a substandard agreement covering the vessel.
