In 2000-2005 the ITF Welfare Fund provided grants to the Seafarers’ Union of Russia so as to implement the program for development of seafarers’ welfare. Owing to the program a number of seafarers’ clubs in Nakhodka, Novorossiysk, Yeisk was built or reconstructed.
15 Admiral Serebryakov Embankment, Novorossiysk
International maritime centre is situated on Admiral Serebryakov Embankment, Novorossiysk. Here seafarers can have a rest, exchange money and call their relatives anywhere in the world. Soon the centre will also have a (reasonably priced) internet-café, IT-telephony, and new sports equipment.
International club of Nakhodka is the only one in the Russian Far East. It has its own buses which deliver seafarers to the club and back to the port. In the club seafarers have an opportunity to get involved many types of recreation or activities.
International rehabilitation seafarers’ centre was established in Yeisk in 2006. It offers a small but comfortable hotel, along with billiard, restaurant, gym, currency exchange, barber’s shop, massage parlour, Internet and many other services. Seafarers can also visit a language centre and have their labour contracts and other documents translated into foreign languages (or from foreign languages into Russian).
Those seafarers who have been abandoned by employers can temporarily live in the centre while their trade union tries to support them. The centre has become a favorite place of seafarers and is very popular among them.
