The employer of the deceased seafarer did not pay the salary to his parents

The company Polaris LLC, on whose ship, under unclear circumstances, a crewmember Konstantin Sorokopud disappeared in April 2020, has not yet paid the money he earned to his parents, although the court recognized the Ch. Mate as dead in November 2020. This was reported to the Far Eastern territorial organization of the Seafarers Union of Russia by the father of the seafarer, Grigory Sorokopud. In this regard, he appealed to the prosecutor's office of the Kamchatka Territory.

From the wage accounts of the deceased, provided by the accounting department  of Polaris, it follows that for work on the m/v Merlang  in December 2019, Konstantin Sorokopud was entitled to a little more than 20 thousand rubles, in January 2020 – about 50 thousand rubles, in February – 44 thousand rubles, in March – about 50 thousand rubles. Bonus also was indicated in the contract of employment. For the entire voyage, the seafarer had to be paid 555 thousand rubles. But the parents of the deceased still have not received a penny. In his appeal to the prosecutor's office, Grigory Sorokopud also notes that he does not agree with the calculations of the accounting department and asks to check the correctness of the payroll of the deceased seafarer. In addition, the father of the Ch. Officer draws the attention of the department that the information in the timesheet does not coincide with the terms of employment. According to him, the salary was calculated according to forged documents. Grigory Skoropud also points out that another person signed the timesheet for his deceased son. «Any seafarer should be aware that in the event of an unforeseen situation, you can only rely on what is specified in the signed contract. To prove forgery, you need other copies of documents. When leaving for a voyage, seafarers should remember that, just in case, copies of all documents should remain at home. As well all documents that are signed on board should be sent to their relatives»,- says the chairman of the FETO SUR Nikolay Sukhanov. As it became known, the prosecutor's Office of the Kamchatka Territory sent a request to the State Labor Inspectorate of the Kamchatka Territory to consider the complaint of G. Sokoropud. The chairman of the FETO SUR, Nikolay Sukhanov, noted that a crewmember of the m/v Merlang disappeared under unclear circumstances. The parents believe that the disappearance is criminal in nature, as Konstantin had a strained relationship with some members of the ship's crew.

«In addition, they are sure that the investigation was conducted formally and in violation of the current legislation. Therefore, in April 2021, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation took control of the progress of the investigation in the criminal case on the death of Ch. Officer Konstantin Sorokopud, who went missing in the Bering Sea», -added Nikolay Sukhanov.
