Happy Spring and Labor Day!

Dear friends and colleagues, brothers and sisters! On behalf of the Seafarers Union of Russia and myself, I congratulate you on the International Workers Day!

1 of May began to be celebrated in the nineteenth century in honor of the heroes of the labor movement, who were not afraid to defend their interests even in the face of threats to their own lives. Since then, much has changed: working conditions, not least thanks to the activities of trade unions, have become better and safer, ordinary people have more rights and opportunities to protect themselves from arbitrariness. However, the world is changing, and with it there are new pressing issues and problems that need to be addressed. This holiday is a good opportunity for workers in all countries to express their demands, to demonstrate unity and the power of solidarity that can move mountains and cross borders.

Of course, this day is especially important for trade unions, which believe that uniting workers to achieve common goals is the key to a better future for all. The more people who become active, the more they will be listened to by both employers and politicians. Although seafarers, due to the specifics of their work, are often at sea, where their capabilities are limited, the SUR, for its part, does not stop defending their rights, seeking decent wages and social guarantees that will allow crewmembers to confidently look to the future, despite any shocks. Together we will be able to overcome all difficulties!

On this spring day, I want to wish you, dear maritime workers, calm watches, strong friendship and inner harmony! I wish you and your families happiness, health, joy and optimism!

The Chairman of the SUR Yuriy Sukhorukov
